About la Maestra
I grew up in a family of six in Bloomingdale, a small farming village in Southwest Michigan that lies at the midpoint of the Kal-Haven trail between South Haven and Kalamazoo. My parents, my three brothers, and I lived on a small Christmas tree farm, which slowly transformed into a blueberry farm over the years. While attending Bloomingdale High School, I developed a love for the Spanish language, which I decided to pursue during my time at Hope College. While studying Spanish Education K-12 at Hope, I had the opportunity to spend a summer in Mexico teaching in a dual immersion school. I also spent a semester as an exchange student in Santiago, Chile, where I studied Spanish literature with Chilean peers. (On a separate note, I recently became engaged to my fiancé, Pablo Mora, who I met during my study abroad semester in Santiago!)
During my final year at Hope, I student taught in Jenison, teaching Spanish Immersion kindergarten at Bursley Elementary and Rosewood Elementary. Upon graduating, I was offered a job teaching full day kindergarten at Bursley, which I gratefully accepted. I have been at Bursley since then! I love teaching and guiding my students as they learn in Spanish. I also enjoy reading, biking, traveling, and spending time with my family.
